Sacred Music Festival - 16/03/24 Igreja de Vale d'el Rei (Lagoa), Algarve

The cultural association Ideias do Levante, in partnership with the Municipality of Lagoa (Algarve), will organize, during the month of March 2024, the fourth edition of the Lagoa Sacred Music Festival, with the aim of promoting the religious artistic heritage of the region. municipality of Lagoa, decentralize concert venues, publicize/promote religious spaces, artists, instruments and works by Portuguese and foreign composers.

According to Roberto Estorninho (president of the board of Ideias do Levante), "this fourth edition will bring together several projects around sacred music, promoting an exchange between institutions, artists/musicians and the public, which will allow it to offer an interesting dynamic and will, certainly , value, and make people, spaces and places known."

On March 16, 2024, at the Church of Vale d'el Rei, at 5:00 pm, Carla Pontes (soprano), Simona Chalikovaite (voice and tanpura) & Vasco Ramalho (percurssion) will present their Hildegard Project.

This concert explores the visions and prayers of Hildegard van Bingen (1098-1179), who was a German Benedictine abbess, writer, composer, mystic and visionary from the XII century, who made significant contributions to music, philosophy, literature, medicine and theology. Her legacy continues to inspire and captivate people to this day. In a musical encounter between ancient and modern musical languages, the singers Carla Pontes and Simona Apsara connect these Gregorian/medieval chants with Indian classical singing and tampura, bringing them into new dimensions, with atmospheric sounds and marimba, played by Vasco Ramalho.
